After 12 hours of polling, the results of Pakistan’s National Assembly elections began to be announced on Friday. The results of 13 constituencies have been declared till 9:45 am Bangladesh time.

According to the results published by Dawn till then, out of 13 seats, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s party PML-N has won 4 seats. Another former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed candidates won 5 seats and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) 4 seats.

In Pakistan, 266 seats of the National Assembly are directly polled. Voting in one seat was earlier suspended after a candidate was shot dead by miscreants ahead of the polls. So voting was done in 265 constituencies yesterday on Thursday.

According to Dawn news, if a party wants to form the government alone, it has to win 134 seats. However, analysts say that no party may get an absolute majority in Pakistan this time.

The main contest is expected to be between PML-N and PTI-backed candidates, the party that won the last election. Many analysts say that Nawaz, who is in the race to become the prime minister, is being supported by the military, which is known to be powerful in Pakistan.

When asked about the delay in the announcement of the results, Special Secretary of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Zafar Iqbal told Reuters that the announcement of the results has been delayed due to “Internet issues”. However, he did not give any detailed explanation.

Earlier on Thursday, mobile phone services were suspended across Pakistan on the polling day. There were also reports of internet shutdown or slow speed in many parts of the country. The government of the country took this initiative mainly for the sake of security. However, mobile phone services are available in Pakistan today.

Leaders of Pakistan’s opposition political parties have criticized the government and the Election Commission for starting the declaration of results late. According to many of them, this is choosing a manipulation strategy
