Today on February 14th, on the day of love, 10 taka roses are being sold for 100 taka’s

February means the month of language, the month of love and celebration. The demand for flowers increases on these days. This time, the flower traders of Tangail are having a busy time ahead of the Spring Festival and World Valentine’s Day. The price of flowers has also increased several times this time due to less cultivation of flowers due to severe winter.

Rows of various flowers are lined up in the shops. Women’s head rings along with hand and neck necklaces are being made. These shops are crowded with customers from morning to evening. Due to the added pressure, many shopkeepers have also taken on additional employees. However, compared to other years, the price of flowers is several times higher this time, traders said.

Meanwhile, the general secretary of the business association expects to sell lakhs of flowers on the occasion of Vasantvaran and World Valentine’s Day. Although there is not much cultivation of flowers in the district, traders buy and sell flowers from different places including Dhaka.

Florists say, our busyness has increased on the occasion of Vasantvaran and World Valentine’s Day. The price of flowers is very high at present due to less cultivation of flowers due to severe winter. It has to buy flowers at a higher price. As the price is high, the number of florists is also less. However, I hope to sell more flowers in the end.

Among these flowers, rose, rosary, gerbera and marigold flowers are in high demand. Roses of Tk 10 per piece are being sold at Tk 50 to Tk 100, rosin gandha flowers of Tk 10 at Tk 20, marigolds at Tk 20 at Tk 40 and gerbera at Tk 40 at Tk 40.

Biplap Pal, the owner of Biplap Pushpa Corner, said that there are enough flowers on the occasion of Basantbaran and World Valentine’s Day. But because the price of flowers is high, the number of buyers is less. We buy wholesale flowers from different places including Dhaka.

Jahangir Alam, the owner of Asha Pushp Corner, said that people are buying less flowers because the price of flowers is high.

The flower shop employee said, different days actually increase our busyness. But this time the price of flowers is much higher as compared to the demand of flowers. All the expenses of our family depend on it.

Flower buyers say that the price of flowers is much higher than before. I could buy more flowers if the price of flowers was lower. On different days, traders actually increase the price of flowers several times.

In this regard, Shibli Sadiq, General Secretary of Victoria Traders Association, said that florists have taken all preparations on the occasion of Basantbaran and World Valentine’s Day. Expect to sell millions of flowers. About 200 employees are working in 15 to 16 flower shops
