Son Kills Father Over Money in Kishoreganj

Dilwar Hossain (Masum), Kishoreganj:
In a brutal incident, a son named Sohel Mia, with the help of friends, allegedly slaughtered his father, Libu Mia, in Bajitpur, Kishoreganj, for money. During the murder, Sohel reportedly held his father’s head down in a paddy field to aid in the act. The Kishoreganj Superintendent of Police, Mohammad Hasan Chowdhury, revealed these details in a press conference at the Police Superintendent’s office at 11:30 am on Saturday.

The arrested suspects include the victim’s son, Sohel Mia (24), and his three accomplices: electrician Babul Mia (31), butcher Nazrul Islam (45), and mason Sumon Mia (25).

On October 20, police discovered a body with hands and feet tied and throat slit in a paddy field in Sultanpur, Pirizpur Union of Bajitpur Upazila. The deceased, Libu Mia (65), was the son of late Sundar Ali from Sultanpur village. That day, Libu’s other son, Abdur Rahman Hridoy, filed a murder case with Bajitpur Police Station.

The police, using technology and intelligence, tracked down and arrested Babul Mia from a hotel in Dakshin Pirizpur Bazar. Babul confessed to being involved in the murder and revealed that they killed Libu for the 70,000 BDT he had on him. Based on Babul’s statement, police arrested Sohel Mia, the victim’s youngest son, and two others. In his confession to the police, Sohel admitted to participating in his father’s murder.

The Superintendent of Police explained that a year prior, Libu Mia sold land for 2.1 million BDT. Of that, he used 600,000 BDT to send Sohel abroad. However, after six months overseas, Sohel returned to Bangladesh, married, and faced financial struggles, taking a loan from an NGO to buy an old auto-rickshaw. Sohel repeatedly asked his father for more of the land sale money, which created family disputes. To prevent theft, Libu would always carry his cash with him. On the day of the murder, Sohel, with his friends, killed his father to obtain the money.

Hasan Chowdhury added that Babul Mia gave a statement under Section 164 in court, where he confirmed that Sohel orchestrated the murder over money.
