Police is Ready to Change Their Logo

The Bangladesh Police is all set to introduce a new official logo as part of ongoing efforts to modernize and reform the force. The new design removes the sailboat symbol and replaces it with imagery rooted in national identity.

According to a letter issued by the Police Headquarters and signed by Additional DIG (Logistics) Nasima Begum, all police units have been informed of the upcoming change. The redesigned monogram, already approved by authorities, features the national flower, the water lily, at the center. It is flanked by sheaves of wheat and paddy, and three jute leaves connect the upper parts. The word ‘পুলিশ’ (Police) will appear at the bottom in Bengali.

Districts and units have been asked to prepare for the change, which will be applied to uniforms, flags, signboards, and all official materials once the final notice is issued.

The current logo has been in use since 2009 during the Awami League’s rule. However, recent political changes, particularly the resignation of Sheikh Hasina amid mass student protests on Aug 5, 2024, prompted the police to call for reforms. During the unrest, many officers faced threats and attacks, leading to a temporary police strike and demands for improved working conditions.

In response, the government initiated a review. A Police Reform Commission, led by former Home Affairs Secretary Safar Raj Hossain, was formed in October and submitted a report in January 2025 with 14 major recommendations. These included changes in uniforms, practices of arrest and detention, and a proposal for an independent police commission.

Home Affairs Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury announced in January that new uniforms for police, RAB, and Ansar had been finalized and would be rolled out gradually.

The introduction of the new logo is being seen as a key step in the symbolic transformation of the police, aligning it more closely with the values of accountability, transparency, and national pride.
