Bangladesh has announced its squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy, with a significant omission of experienced players Shakib Al Hasan and Litton Das. Shakib’s absence comes due to a suspension following a report of a suspect bowling action, effectively sidelining him from international cricket for the tournament. This also hints at the potential end of his 50-over career.

The more surprising exclusion is that of Litton Das, who has struggled with form, recording six single-digit scores in his last seven ODI innings. Chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain explained that Litton has failed to capitalize during powerplay situations, leading to his exclusion despite his previous experience and role in the team.

In a bid to inject youthful aggression and fresh form into the squad, Bangladesh has opted for players like Towhid Hridoy, Soumya Sarkar, and Tanzid Hasan, alongside seasoned campaigners such as Mushfiqur Rahim. Najmul Hossain Shanto will captain the side, and the squad will aim to make an impact with a dynamic approach during the tournament.

Bangladesh’s first match will be against India on February 20, marking the start of their Champions Trophy campaign in Pakistan and Dubai. The team’s decision to prioritize youth and form signals their intent to evolve into a more aggressive and competitive side on the global stage.
