Tanjim Sakib Receives Three Demerit Points Following On-Field Misconduct

Sylhet Strikers’ pacer Tanjim Hasan Sakib has been handed a penalty of three demerit points following an on-field confrontation with Khulna Tigers’ all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz during their Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match on January 12, 2025, at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

The incident occurred when Nawaz was dismissed after facing a slower delivery from Sakib. As Nawaz made his way back to the pavilion, he accidentally collided with Sakib, which led to a heated exchange of words between the two players. The situation was quickly diffused by match officials, but the altercation resulted in both players being penalised for breaching the code of conduct.

Match referee Ehsanul Haque Sejan investigated the incident and imposed a fine on both players, with Tanjim Sakib receiving three demerit points. The player also faced a 15% fine on his match fee for his role in the altercation.

Sakib accepted the penalty, avoiding the need for a formal hearing. The match referee expressed his disappointment over the incident, emphasising the importance of maintaining discipline and respect for the game. “Such conduct is disappointing,” said Sejan, “Players need to be more responsible to uphold the spirit and dignity of cricket.”

This penalty adds to Tanjim Sakib’s disciplinary record and serves as a reminder of the need for sportsmanship and respect between players, both on and off the field.
